Green Drinks Juicing Recipes

For the ultimate in healthfulness, there is no substitute for buckwheat and sunflower greens. However, when these are not available, sprouts may be substituted in the following green drink recipes.

Green drinks are best made in a wheatgrass juicer as many of the ingredients will oxidize (turn grey or brown) in highspeed juicers. If desired, strain green juice using a fine wire mesh strainer. Stir and drink.

These recipes are from a 1989 Juicing Cookbook by Steven Blauer.

Basic Green Drink

  • 1 cup buckwheat greens
  • 1 cup sunflower greens
  • 1 cup alfalfa sprouts
  • 1/2 cup mung bean sprouts
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 1 stalk of celery
  • 1/2 medium cucumber
  • 1 small scallion
  • 2 tablespoons sauerkraut

Wash ingredients. Combine. Juice and serve.

A Plus

  • 1 cup buckwheat greens
  • 1 cup sunflower greens
  • 1 cup alfalfa sprouts
  • 1/2 cup cabbage sprouts
  • 1/2 cup asparagus stems
  • 3 kale leaves
  • 1 medium carrot

Wash ingredients. Combine. Juice and serve.

Green Power

  • 1 cup alfalfa sprouts
  • 1/2 cup mung bean sprouts
  • 1/4 cup fenugreek sprouts
  • 1 stalk of celery
  • 1/2 medium cucumber
  • 3 beet greens
  • 1/2 beet root
  • 2 handfuls spinach
  • 3 collard leaves

Wash ingredients. Combine. Juice and serve.

Wild Thing

  • 1 cup sunflower greens
  • 1/4 cup radish sprouts
  • 1 cup buckwheat greens
  • 2 cups lamb's quarters or purslane
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1/2 small zucchini
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 1/2 beet root

Wash ingredients. Combine. Juice and serve.

Blood Sugar Tonic

  • 1 cup alfalfa sprouts
  • 1 cup mung bean sprouts
  • 1 cup lentil sprouts
  • 2 kale leaves
  • 1 cup Jerusalem artichokes
  • 1 handful string beans
  • 1 medium parsnip
  • 1/2 cup fennel

Wash ingredients. Combine. Juice and serve.

Hand Warmer

  • 1 cup alfalfa sprouts
  • 1 cup buckwheat greens
  • 1/4 cup radish sprouts
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1 medium red pepper
  • 1 medium parsnip
  • 1 handful watercress
  • 1 handful parsley
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger root, grated

Wash ingredients. Combine. Juice. Serve in a warm glass.

Turn Up Energy

  • 1 cup sunflower greens
  • 1 cup buckwheat greens
  • 1 cup aduki bean sprouts
  • 4 turnip green leaves
  • 1 small yellow turnip
  • 5 carrot tops
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 1/2 cup fennel

Wash ingredients. Combine. Juice and serve.
