Easy Homemade Meat Pies

These are really good but it's a good idea to prepare the pie crust before, or while your potatoes and carrots are cooking. If you like Meat Pies also try the recipe below called Tuna Rollups.

Jane's Meat Pies

  • Make a pie crust, roll and cut into squares

  • Brown in skillet together and drain:
  • 1 lb hamburger
  • 1 chopped onion

  • Cook until tender and drain:
  • 4 potatoes diced
  • Carrots and celery diced

  • Add 1 can Cream of Mushroom or Chicken Soup to vegetables

  • Now add the meat and onion mixture.
  • Mix well, add salt and pepper to taste.

Add 2 tablespoons filling to center of each square, take the edge of crust and pull over filling to make a triangle. Seal by pressing edges with your fingers or a fork. Place on cookie sheet, bake at 350 until golden brown.

Fleish Kethala Hamburger Turnover

  • 1 1/2 lb hamburger
  • 1 small onion
  • salt and pepper

  • Turnover Dough:

  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 Tblsp shortening
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • Flour, enough to make dough stiff

Brown meat with chopped onion and season to taste. Knead dough until elastic, divide dough in half, roll thin and cut into squares. Place a tablespoon or more of meat onto each square. Fold over as a turnover. Pinch edges together. Makes 24. Heat oil in deep fat fryer to 375 degrees. Drop in turnover and brown 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. Two to three turnovers can be done at a time.

Pasties

    DOUGH:
  • 1 c. all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/3 c. oil
  • 3/4 c. (approx.) cold water (enough to make a soft ball)

  • FILLING:
  • 1 1/2 - 2 raw potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 lb. cubed steak (or raw hamburger)
  • 1/4 raw onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp. butter (optional)

DOUGH FOR EACH PASTY WHICH EQUALS 1 SERVING: Mix all ingredients together, except water. Mix with fork until consistency of cornmeal. Add cold water and mix to form ball. Roll dough out on floured board, 1/4 inch thick and size of an 8 inch pie crust.

FILLING: Cover half of dough with raw potatoes, raw meat and raw onions. Salt and pepper to taste. Dot with butter. Moisten edge of crust with water so edge will seal. Fold dough in half over filling, pressing edges together and then crimp or roll edges together. Prick a couple vent holes in the top and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 45 minutes.

Sarah's Easy Hamburger Pie

This makes a good dinner with a green salad and fruit for dessert.
  • 1 pkg. frozen pie crust shells
  • 1 med onion
  • 1/2 red bell pepper
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 can tomato soup

Turn on oven to 400°. Remove pie crust shells from freezer. Invert one shell onto wax paper or saran wrap and remove foil pan. Leave other shell upright in pan. Dice onion and red pepper. In a large skillet brown beef with the onion and pepper. Drain excess fat. Remove skillet from heat, add undiluted soup. Pour into crust shell still in pan. Carefully flatten the other shell and invert crust over pie. Peel off paper. Seal and flute edges. Prick top crust several times with a fork. Place pie pan on a cookie sheet. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until crust is browned. Cool 5 minutes before cutting. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

Lynda's Meat Pie

This dish is more like a casserole
  • 1 lb round steak, cut in pieces
  • 2 carrots, sliced onion, chopped
  • 2 potatoes
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced

Brown meat and onion. Add water and simmer until done. Thicken with water and cornstarch and make gravy. In a separate pan, place diced potatoes, carrots, and celery and cook until done. Place vegetables, then meat and gravy in casserole dish. Make Bisquick Biscuits to put on the top. Bake 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees until biscuits are done.

Meatzza Pie

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups crackers, crushed by hand
  • 1 small can Pet milk
  • 2 tbsp. garlic, or season to your taste

Mix all ingredients and press in pan. Put in at least an 8x8 metal or glass pan, and press in the center. Bake at 350 until well done. Then pour ketchup on top, sprinkle with oregano, place sliced cheese on top and return to oven until melted.

Easy Shepard's Pie Recipe

Here's a recipe for Shepard's Pie that is called "Pal's Luncheon." Three ingredients!

Tuna Rollups

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 can tuna - drained
  • 1/2 cup celery - minced
  • 1 egg

Sift dry ingredients, add oil and milk. Stir with a fork. Knead about 10 times. Roll out and cut into 9 squares. Combine remaining ingredients and mix well. Spread 2 tsp of tuna filling over each square. Roll each like a jelly roll. Place sealed side down on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes at 350°. Serve with cream of celery, mushroom or cream of chicken soup.
