Oatmeal Recipes
Here's a picture of the Vanishing Oatmeal Raisin Cookies I always make, which they are true to their name because they disappear fast. Sometimes I leave out the raisins and add chocolate chips instead. Next to them is some Cream Cheese cookies made from box cake mix. The recipe for them is on the Cake Mix Cookies page.
I've been putting off making an Oatmeal page, even though I make Oatmeal Cookies a lot. But now I have several recipe books that has a bunch of oatmeal recipes in it. I'll be adding some of the recipes such as Oatmeal Bread and Oatmeal Cookies to this page.
Oatmeal Tip: What if you have Old Fashion Oats and you need Quick Oats? Here's a tip. Just put your Old Fashion Oats in a bowl, and crumble the oats with your hands. When they process whole oats, Quick Oats is the broken whole oats. Get it?
Vanishing Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
- 2 sticks margarine or butter, softened
- 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
- 3 cups Quaker oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
- 1 c. raisins
- Heat oven to 350 F.
- Beat together margarine and sugars until creamy.
- Add eggs and vanilla, beat well.
- Add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; mix well.
- Stir in oats and raisins; mix well.
- Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet; remove to wire rack. Makes about 4 dozen.
Bar Cookies: Bake 30 to 35 minutes in ungreased 13x9-inch metal baking pan.

Oatmeal Crispies
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups brown sugar, packed
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 3 cup oatmeal
- 1 cup coconut
- 2 eggs
Combine shortening and sugar till fluffy; add eggs, vanilla; beat well. Sift flour, salt and soda; add to mixture. Stir in oatmeal and coconut. Form in 2 rolls and chill thoroughly. Cut in slices and bake at 350 degrees.

Chuckie's Oatmeal Cookies
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. shortening (part butter for flavor)
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 c. oatmeal
- 2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 c. nuts
Cook raisins until tender and set aside (reserve water). Blend sugar and shortening; add beaten eggs and then oatmeal.
Sift together and add flour, soda, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Add cooked raisins and 5 Tblsp. of their juice, along with the nutmeats.
Chill batter before dropping from a teaspoon onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 about 15 minutes, or until light brown.

Three-in-One Cookies
- 1 cup shortening, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 1/4 cup sifted flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 13 cups oatmeal
- 1 cup coconut
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Beat shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla until creamy. Add flour, soda and salt; blend well. Stir in oatmeal, coconut and chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls. Bake at 350°.

Oatmeal Cookie Crackers
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp soda
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 cups quick cooking rolled oats
- 2 to 2 1/2 cups flour
Oven 350°. Cream butter. Gradually add sugar; continue creaming until light and fluffy. Dissolve soda in hot water; add to creamed mixture. Blend in salt and rolled oats. Add flour gradually to form a stiff dough; mix thoroughly. Divide into 4 parts. Shape into squares; flatten to 1/2 inch thickness. Roll out 1 part on floured surface to a 16x8-inch rectangle. Sprinkle with salt; roll in lightly. Cut into 2-inch squares, diamonds or triangles. Place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for 7 to 10 minutes until delicately browned.
Note: Sugar, sesame seed, poppy seed or caraway seed may be substituted for salt.
1964 Pillsbury Bake-Off Recipe
Oatmeal Bread 1
Recipes for Oatmeal Bread- 2 T. melted fat
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 5 tsp. baking powder
- Milk (about 1/4 cup)
- 2 T. molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 cup cooked oatmeal
- 1 tsp. salt
Mix fat and sifted dry ingredients, add molasses, beaten egg and oatmeal. Add milk to mixture to make a rather stiff batter (1/4 cup milk depending on the consistency of the oatmeal). Pour into greased loaf pan and let stand 15 min. Bake in 375 oven for 45 min.

Oatmeal Bread 2
- 1 c. oatmeal
- 2 c. boiling water
- 3 T. shortening
- 2/3 c. brown sugar
- 1 T. white sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 T. yeast
- 1/3 c. warm water
- 5 c. flour
Cook oatmeal, water and shortening, add sugar and salt. Cool, then add yeast that is dissolved in warm water. Add flour and knead well. Let rise. Form into loaves or dinner rolls. Let rise again, then bake at 350°.

Here's another recipe for Oatmeal Bread that seems to be a little more difficult to make.
Oatmeal Cake
- Pour 1 1/4 cups hot water over 1 cup oatmeal and let stand.
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/3 c. flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
Cream together:
Sift together:
Mix into shortening mixture, then mix in oatmeal. Put in a greased 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
ICING: Mix 1/2 cup butter, 1 T. milk, 1 cup brown sugar in saucepan. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat and add 2 cups coconut. Pour over baked cake and brown under broiler.
